Dr Chelvan - Lifetime Achievement Award and Visiting Adjunct Professorship - University of Southampton

Lifetime Achievement award - Inaugural Outstanding Alumni awards (21 July 2022):

33 Bedford Row’s Dr Chelvan was last night awarded the Lifetime Achievement award at the Inaugural Outstanding Alumni Awards. The awards were held as part of the Vice Chancellor’s Celebration Dinner at St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton.

Dr Chelvan graduated with a first in Politics and Law, in 1998. He has returned to the University on many other occasions  over the last 20 years to speak with students to share his insights on a career at the Bar, specialising in Refugee rights, and LGBTQ+ rights.

There were fifty nominations for this award launched in the University’s 70th year, recognising excellence in the alumni community.  Dr Chelvan, was  nominated by the Law School. The panel awarded Dr Chelvan the Lifetime Achievement award, based on:

“[His] tireless work in defence of human rights was truly inspiring, deeply meaningful, and significant on both a national and international level.

[Chelvan’s] dedication to improving the lives of others embodies the University’s commitment to excellence and its mission to change the world for the better.”

Visiting Adjunct Professorship (from 1 September):

Dr Chelvan from 1 September 2022 will be a Visiting Adjunct Professor at the Research Centre for International Law and Globalisation. The 18 July appointment letter from the Law School highlighted the status of Visiting Adjunct Professor is conferred on eminent leaders of business and industry who collaborate with the Law School.  The appointment is for a renewable period of one year. Dr Chelvan looks forward to contribute and collaborate further to life at the Law School.
