Scott Tuppen’s client was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm, making threats to kill, and attempted (armed) robbery.
After a 4-day trial at the Crown Court in Kingston-Upon-Thames, a jury unanimously acquitted Scott’s client on all counts.
This was a serious case which was investigated by the Metropolitan Police over a period of nearly 3 years before charges were brought. Underscoring the seriousness of the allegations, the Crown Prosecution Service took the extraordinary step of flying in a key witness from abroad to give evidence at the trial. During the trial, the prosecution sought to attribute a purported confession to the defendant, but Scott was able to expose several problems with this supposed confession through cross-examination of prosecution witnesses, raising significant doubts about the authenticity of the document. Scott also exposed major problems with the identification evidence and other evidential weaknesses during the course of the trial.
Sarah Moulange of Taylor Rose Solicitors who instructed Scott described the result as amazing and thanked Scott for his work on the case.
