Sonia Larbi Aïssa appeared in the Court of Appeal before Lady Justice Andrews, Mr Justice Bennathan and HHJ Picton in an appeal against sentence. Leave to appeal was granted following her written advice.
The Appellant had pleaded guilty at the first appearance to sexual activity with a family member under the age of 13, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under the age of 13, taking indecent images of a child, distributing indecent images of a child and possession of extreme pornographic images.
After deliberation, the Court allowed the appeal, quashed the original sentence of seven years, and imposed a sentence of five years and four months.
Giving judgement, Mr Justice Bennathan praised Sonia for her “well focussed and excellent oral submissions”.
