This week, Christina Warner, Founder of the campaign behind the Domestic Abuse Pets Bill (Ruby’s Law), had the privilege of speaking at the Oxford Animal Ethics Conference, sharing the campaign’s work and the urgent need for legal reform to protect pets within the context of domestic abuse.
This follows Christina’s appointment in April 2026 as a Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics, recognising her work at the intersection of law, animal protection, and access to justice.
Ruby’s Law was founded on the recognition that pets can be used by perpetrators as instruments of coercion, control, intimidation, and punishment. The campaign seeks to ensure that the law reflects the lived reality of survivors by strengthening protections for both victims and the animals they love.
What began as a campaign inspired by frontline experiences has grown into a wider movement for legal reform, bringing together lawyers, parliamentarians, academics, charities, and animal welfare organisations.
