Tony Cole FCIArb is recognised for his expertise in arbitration, cross-border commerce and international investment law. A dual U.K. and Australian national, he has been a member of the New York Bar since 2005 and has spoken on arbitration around the world. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has provided guidance on arbitration to the European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee. Mr. Cole has delivered numerous decisions in arbitrations and adjudications covering a range of fields, and has particular experience in commercial, transportation (aviation/maritime), construction, education and financial disputes.
Arran Dowling-Hussey FCIArb, an Irish national, is a barrister, arbitrator and mediator. He has a significant background as a neutral and as a counsel in arbitrations and court applications arising from arbitration matters. Global Arbitration Review list him in their Arbitrator Research Tool, a database of leading arbitrators. Mr. Dowling-Hussey is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and a former member of its Board of Management. He is a co-author of the 3rd edition of Arbitration Law which was published in 2018.
Dermot Flanagan S.C., FCIArb was appointed Senior Counsel in 2000. Mr. Flanagan, an Irish national, is a qualified and practising mediator and arbitrator. He specializes in environmental, compulsory acquisition, planning and infrastructure law disputes. He is noted for his experience in infrastructure projects including roads, waste, ports, water, rail, airport, and Strategic Development Zones. Recognised by the Law Society of Ireland for his expertise as an Arbitrator he is a member of their panel and other panels. Mr. Flanagan recently spoke to the Dubai DIFC academy of law on infrastructure disputes.
The Honourable Barry Leon FCIArb, a Canadian, was Presiding Judge of the British Virgin Islands Commercial Court (2015 – 2018). He is an International Mediation Institute (IMI) Certified Mediator, past Chair of ICC Canada’s Arbitration Committee, and Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Barry is an arbitrator with Arbitration Place (Canada) and Caribbean Arbitrators. He was Head of the International Arbitration Group at Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall (Ottawa) (2009 – 2015), and before that, for many years was a Partner with Torys (Toronto). Barry holds MBA degree and is an Ontario lawyer (non-practicing).
Dr. Tariq Mahmood FCIArb, a British national,works as a barrister, neutral and tribunal secretary with a focus on the UK & Ireland, the Gulf region, Pakistan and the wider Asia Pacific region. Dr. Mahmood is also qualified as a lawyer in Pakistan. He is a member of the committee of the Asia-Pacific Forum for International Arbitration. Dr. Mahmood, along with 33 Bedford Row colleagues, provides bespoke ADR courses, seminars and training in ADR. He has recently worked as a consultant to the Council of Europe on their arbitration training.
Dr. Katherine Simpson MCIArb is an arbitrator, tribunal secretary and attorney, admitted to the New Jersey and Maryland bars. She is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Michigan, a top ten ranked US law school, where she teaches international arbitration. She is well-versed in the needs of complex international disputes and has worked with many of the world's leading arbitrators. In addition to her international commercial case work, she has experience in investment disputes and cases involving states and state-owned entities. She is a US citizen and can conduct proceedings in German.
