Amongst the various international events that graced the Bar Council's calendar in 2022 the Kenya and Tanzania legal Symposiums held in November 2022 stood out.
Hammad Baig was selected by the Bar Council to be part of the delegation attending the symposiums in Kenya and Tanzania. Hammad met with the legal luminaries in both jurisdictions and exchanged ideas on international trade, bilateral trade treaties, arbitration and cross border taxation.
The symposiums provided an excellent opportunity for legal professionals to exchange ideas and to explore possibilities for mutual cooperation, the message from the Bar Council delegation was simple, that barristers offer a one stop solution for all international legal needs and explored possibilities of collaboration. Topics covered by the delegation included international commercial arbitration, international criminal law, the rise of cryptocurrency fraud, international trade, environment and climate related disputes and bilateral investment treaties.
The symposium was met with approval and enthusiasm by the law societies in Kenya and Tanzania. Bar Council intends to organise future similar visits to other jurisdictions.
Hammad practices tax law and commercial litigation with a specific interest in VAT and Customs and Excise Law.
