Dr Austen Morgan of 33 Bedford Row is part of a legal team preparing a challenge in the wake of the Brady amendment, which was accepted by the House of Commons on 29 January 2019.
The claimants – led by Lord Trimble, the former first minister of Northern Ireland – argue that the Belfast (or Good Friday) agreement also applies to the question of the Irish border.
They seek a meeting of the British-Irish intergovernmental conference, a UK-Irish work programme on how to avoid a hard border, and a preliminary paper outlining the ‘alternative arrangements’ to the backstop in the EU’s draft withdrawal agreement.
