Diana's written personal statement is:

Tell us something about you, your practice and other professional activities at the Bar with which you are involved?

My name is Diana Constantinide, self-employed barrister from 33 Bedford Row Chambers. I am practicing international criminal and human rights law before international and domestic courts. I also practiced law in the Republic of Cyprus. I am an activist lawyer, that believes in the Rule of Law, Democracy, Independence of Judiciary and right of the litigants to have fearless and cost-effective representation and is our role in helping to preserve it. Today all lawyers need to be activist lawyers.

What can you offer the Bar Council?

Covid has proven that the everything is a flux, and it has created an opportunity to re-assess our work practices such as remote hearings, lower costs for both clients and counsels, greater access to justice, flexible hours, and environmentally friendly profession. This an opportunity to release the pressure of aged debt and uncertain income from the Junior Bar. Furthermore, I will stand up for all levels of the Bar and commit to listen carefully our concerns especially about education, inclusiveness, and social mobility.

What is your motivation for standing for the Bar Council in these elections?

Thus, my priority is to help ensure stability of individual barristers and the Bar as a whole, along with government’s support. If elected, I will do all I can to achieve those goals.
