The Annual Conference of the International Lawyers Association took place on 31 August 2024 at Redbridge Town Hall. 33 Bedford Row's Jon Trussler was a guest speaker at the event.

The main speaker was Lubna Shuja [see image below] who spoke on regulation and professional discipline. She chairs disciplinary hearings at the Solicitors' Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT). Lubna was the 178th person, first Asian, first Muslim and seventh female president of the Law Society of England and Wales. 

Jon Trussler - who has over 30 years’ experience as a barrister, specialising in criminal cases in his formative years and now working largely in civil litigation and family (private law) cases - spoke on GDPR with an emphasis on the Regulation for lawyers.

  

Two of the cases Jon referred to in his speech, were actually class actions undertaken as solicitor by Simon Ridding, who has very recently joined Chambers as a transferee to the Bar.
