Introduction

Simon comes to chambers as a transferring solicitor with a varied background in several of chambers main practice areas including civil, commercial, international and regulatory. The bulk of his experience is in the field of class action litigation having worked on and managed some of the highest profile actions in recent years, mainly in the field of data protection and privacy.

His practice in chambers focusses on data protection/privacy, cyber, housing, regulatory, asylum/immigration, costs, civil actions against the police and public bodies, public law and international human rights law. Simon regularly acts for housing associations in a variety of housing related matters such as disrepair and injunctive relief related to anti-social behaviour. He is also regularly instructed by the government, regulators and trade unions in relation to regulatory matters and acts as junior to more senior members of chambers in the upper tribunals and court of appeal. 

Simon is committed to pro bono and acts on a number of matters for those who are unable to afford legal representation. He is willing to consider any matter on a pro bono basis should there be a definite need.

Asylum

Asylum

Simon assists more senior members of chambers in relation to Article 3 human rights claims in the first and upper tier tribunals and on asylum matters generally. He currently acts as junior to Dr Chelvan in an appeal by the Secratary of State relating to the standard of proof required in Article 3 deportation cases.

Simon also acts pro bono on asylum matters for the charity Advocate and is developing his asylum practice to represent those in need in the first tier tribunal.

Housing

Housing

Simon acts for claimants and defendants in housing matters mainly in relation to claims brought for disrepair. He has developed relationships with housing trusts that goes beyond hearing attendance for example assisting with the general strategy of one particular housing trust on how best to deal with all of the claims brought against it.

Generally Simon is instructed to attend trials, interim hearings, CCMC's and mediations in addition to drafting pleadings, applications, advices and correspondence.

Simon also acts in possession matters and is willing to travel throughout the country. He also delivers inhouse training on issues such as homelessness and acts on injunction matters related to anti-social behaviour.

Simon is willing to act pro bono for those who are unable to afford legal representation and is open to discuss any matter should help be needed.

Simon is developing a regulatory practice and acts for medical professionals in disciplinary hearings in addition to acting as presenter on behalf of various regulators. 

Simon is also instructed by the government in relation to civil penalty matters.

Civil

Simon's civil practice incorporates personal injury, credit hire, housing and actions against the police. 

Simon attends trials, interim hearings, CCMC's and any other hearing as required. A large focus of Simon's civil work relates to actions agains the police where he represents claimant's in claims for false imprisonment and associated issues. He is able to turnaround pleadings quickly and is willing to travel throughout the country to attend hearings. 

He also deals with data protection matters to include the drafting of pleadings, advices and attendance and hearings and trials. He also currently assists with the development of data protection class action matters and the development of new case theories with particular law firms.

Simon is developing a coronial practice and recently acted for a local authority. In the past he has acted on behalf of bereaved families at inquests. 

International Human Rights

International Human Rights

Simon currently assists Haydee Dijkstal in relation to international human rights abuses. He currently acts as junior in a case of abritary detention in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 

Memberships

Memberships

Simon is a member of the Bar Human Rights Committee. He also undertakes pro bono work on behalf of the charity Advocate. Simon is committed to helping those who are unable to help themselves and will act pro bono if required. He has volunteered for the Bar Council's Schools program which places Barristers in schools to provide information and guidance regarding a career at the Bar. Lastly, Simon is developing a program of learning for school children which will cover a wide range of practical legal life skills and knowledge.
